Academy 411’s no-gi jiu jitsu classes are the most popular and social way to learn self-defence skills, and are a good way to dip your toe in and see why BJJ is so popular around the world.
In Brazilian jiu jitsu no-gi classes, you’ll get a chance to meet lots of people and try out the combat sport in a supportive, casual environment. Unlike traditional gi Brazilian jiu jitsu, which is more like Japanese jiu jitsu and focuses on strikes and grip-based holds and submissions, no-gi Brazilian jiu jitsu includes more ground-based wrestling takedowns and is a faster, more practical version of the martial art, perfect for fitness and endurance training.
We have a range of membership options if you’re keen to give no-gi Brazilian jiu jitsu a try, with weekly, bi-annual, and annual memberships, as well as casual passes or 10-pass packs. We also have a traitor membership where you can train as much as you like if you’re already a member of a traditional gym, but minus the gradings and promotions!
Academy 411’s no-gi jiu jitsu classes are a great way for beginners to train their bodies and minds in this combat sport martial art that requires discipline and patience to learn techniques that give confidence while boosting fitness.
No-gi submission grappling differs from traditional jiu jitsu as you don’t have clothing to grip, so holds and submissions focus more on clinching and wrestling takedowns, requiring more physical strength and endurance.
Our coaches are dedicated to this sport and compete at elite levels, so no matter if you’re a beginner or expert, you’re definitely going to learn with us. We’re all certified to work with children and have first aid and CPR training for peace of mind. We also have the eastern suburbs’ largest mat space, with 140 square metres available for classes to use!
There’s no better way to learn grappling techniques than with our Brazilian jiu jitsu no-gi classes. By taking off the gi, you remove almost all grip-based grappling and submissions, instead having to rely on strength and technique. We’re passionate about helping people on their journey to competing, and can help you master the techniques you’ll need for no-gi jiu jitsu competitions.
There are many benefits that come from no-gi jiu jitsu, aside from learning valuable life-long self-defence skills. It is a physically intensive way to train endurance, strength, mobility, and flexibility, as well as help you develop discipline and focus while under stressful situations.
Our Brazilian jiu jitsu no-gi classes are the best way to meet people and learn new skills, and everyone is welcome to come along and give it a try in this supportive and friendly environment. We have a 7-day trial membership that lets you join unlimited classes, and it’s the perfect option to experience the world of Brazilian jiu jitsu!
Unlike Japanese jiu jitsu, which is a more traditional martial art with strikes and throws, BJJ focuses on using leverage and techniques to teach you the skills needed to defend yourself against larger opponents. This means our Brazilian jiu jitsu for adults is fantastic for building strength, as well as confidence in your own ability to defend yourself.
Keen to learn Brazilian jiu jitsu but already working out at another gym? We have a special ‘traitor’ membership that lets you join as many classes as you like, without taking part in gradings or promotions. Keep yourself fit and learn new skills at your own pace without giving up traditional gym workouts!
If you’re interested in becoming fitter, stronger, and learning the skills you need to defend yourself, our Brazilian jiu jitsu for adults is the perfect choice. Some people take to jiu jitsu very quickly, whereas others develop their skills at a more moderate pace, the best way to find out is to give it a go!
No-gi jiu jitsu is a great way to get introduced to BJJ, and particularly good for beginners who want to meet people and learn new skills in a supportive environment.
The main benefits are big ones; increases to strength, endurance, and discipline, as well as self-defence skills that are practical in real world scenarios.
No-gi jiu jitsu is a more modern version focused on speed and mobility with wrestling-based takedowns and techniques, rather than traditional strikes and holds

None of the cultish or autocratic behaviour of some other bjj gyms. High level, and always teaching the meta of current grappling combined with great fundamentals. Some Of the best coaches available in Aus. Couldn’t be happier to be training here in Sydney.Posted on Alberto Mangas7 April 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I joined Academy 411 last year having never tried Jiu jitsu before, the owners/staff immediately made me feel at home and comfortable. The gym is one of the most welcoming environments I’ve ever had the pleasure of being apart of and 411 feels like a family. On top of that the coaches are constantly adapting techniques/game-plans to be on top of the constantly evolving sport that modern jiu jitsu has become allowing members to evolve with the sport and constantly up their game. 10/10 would recommend also neurodivergent friendly 😎Posted on Maab18 March 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Academy 411 has been an incredible addition to my jits routine. They offer a "Traitor Membership," which is perfect for those who already train elsewhere but want to supplement their training with quality sessions (me). The gym facilities itself are top-tier with great matspace, an aesthetic vibe and some of the cleanest bathrooms I’ve seen at a jits gym. There’s a strong competition focus with a diverse range of athletes, from hobbyists to serious competitors, making every session a great mix of technical work and hard rounds. Also super nice and friendly peeps. I train both gi and nogi here, and both programs are solid, with a good balance of instruction and intensity. An excellent place to train. Highly recommend for anyone looking to cross-train!Posted on Kogar Cetinich15 March 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
